Dear Current 8th – 11th Grade Parent/Guardian:
Through Ohio Senate Bill 311, the State Board of Education has adopted a plan that enables students to “earn units of high school credit based on demonstration of subject area competency, instead of or in combination with completing hours of classroom instruction”. This plan is referred to as “Credit Flexibility”.
The Wyoming City School District has developed a credit flexibility plan that will enable students to earn high school credit by: a) completing coursework, b) testing out of or demonstrating mastery of course content, c) pursuing one or more educational options in accordance with the District’s Credit Flexibility plan, or d) any combination of the above. This plan went into effect beginning with the 2011-2012 school year.
Students choosing to take advantage of this opportunity must complete a Wyoming High School Credit Flexibility Application and submit it to the Middle School or High School Guidance Office no later than 3pm, Thursday, MARCH 1st, 2018. Applications are available on the High School website on January 31st.
You will find an application for Independent Study as well as specific applications for Summer School PE and online Health. Students may take Summer PE at any accredited high school; additional text work or quizzes is no longer required.
All applicants will receive notification of approval within seven calendar days in order to accommodate appropriate schedule changes. Any student who applies after March 1st will not be eligible for the credit flexibility option during the 2018-2019 school year.
For more information about how credit flexibility may apply to your child’s academic planning, please contact Monica Moore, High School Counselor, at 206-7059 or firstname.lastname@example.org.

Construction is still underway at Wyoming Community Coffee here in Wyoming; they had hoped to be open by February, but it looks more like it will be March. In the meantime, they are looking to help perk up your day by setting up an espresso cart here at WHS on Friday, February 2 from 6:45 AM to 8:15 AM. (Student coffee sales will end at 7:45 AM: coffee sales are not an excuse for a tardy.) Not only will this allow us to have a tasty “cup of joe”, but it also will allow their new staff to practice their skills. If you would like to get your day percolating with some coffee, below is the cost of drink:

Wyoming Winter Music Festival
Please join us for the 5th Annual Wyoming Winter Music Festival, a WSMA Fundraiser, on Friday, February 9, from 7-10 p.m. at the Wyoming Fine Arts Center. This one-of-a-kind event begins in the ballroom with wine, beer, bar snacks, and music from the cast of WHS’s “Once Upon a Mattress”. From there, the adult-only guests are divided into touring groups with their backstage passes to visit the four different venues in the building: Classical, Broadway, Singer-Songwriter, and Eclectic – each room will have thematically paired hors d’ouevres to enjoy while listening to amazing performances from WHS’s finest musicians. Everyone will gather back together in the ballroom for the finale with the award-winning WHS Jazz Band and dessert (there is a possible surprise closing band too!). Four courses, wine and beer, and unbelievable musical talent– all for only $40 per person! Reservations can be made at www.wyomingmusic.org. Don’t delay – space is limited, tickets sales will be capped, and this event sells out!
