January 31st, 2018

Dear Current 8th – 11th Grade Parent/Guardian:

Through Ohio Senate Bill 311, the State Board of Education has adopted a plan that enables students to “earn units of high school credit based on demonstration of subject area competency, instead of or in combination with completing hours of classroom instruction”. This plan is referred to as “Credit Flexibility”.

The Wyoming City School District has developed a credit flexibility plan that will enable students to earn high school credit by: a) completing coursework, b) testing out of or demonstrating mastery of course content, c) pursuing one or more educational options in accordance with the District’s Credit Flexibility plan, or d) any combination of the above. This plan went into effect beginning with the 2011-2012 school year.

Students choosing to take advantage of this opportunity must complete a Wyoming High School Credit Flexibility Application and submit it to the Middle School or High School Guidance Office no later than 3pm, Thursday, MARCH 1st, 2018.   Applications are available on the High School website on January 31st.

www.wyomingcityschools.org/academics/high school.

You will find an application for Independent Study as well as specific applications for Summer School PE and online Health. Students may take Summer PE at any accredited high school; additional text work or quizzes is no longer required.

All applicants will receive notification of approval within seven calendar days in order to accommodate appropriate schedule changes. Any student who applies after March 1st will not be eligible for the credit flexibility option during the 2018-2019 school year.

For more information about how credit flexibility may apply to your child’s academic planning, please contact Monica Moore, High School Counselor, at 206-7059 or moorem@wyomingcityschools.org.

Sincerely,

Ashley Whitely

Principal

Construction is still underway at Wyoming Community Coffee here in Wyoming; they had hoped to be open by February, but it looks more like it will be March.  In the meantime, they are looking to help perk up your day by setting up an espresso cart here at WHS on Friday, February 2 from 6:45 AM to 8:15 AM.  (Student coffee sales will end at 7:45 AM: coffee sales are not an excuse for a tardy.) Not only will this allow us to have a tasty “cup of joe”, but it also will allow their new staff to practice their skills.  If you would like to get your day percolating with some coffee, below is the cost of drink:

Wyoming Community Coffee @ Wyoming High School!

Tenth grade students who participated in the October administration of the PSAT  received  paper copies of their score reports this past week in their English classes.  During this time, college counselors demonstrated how students can access their scores online and showed them how they can use these scores to measure their current level of college readiness and begin planning for college.  College counselors also provided an overview of additional online college planning resources available to students through College Board and Naviance.   Please contact Mrs. Bunton at buntonn@wyomincityschools.org if you have questions or concerns about PSAT results.
